Sherwin Nuland's TED talk about his life touched and inspired me. At 43 he almost became a vegetable (frontal lobotomy) because medical experts thought it was his only chance of escaping severe depression. But thanks to a good doctor and a lot of perserverance he went back to a careeer as a world class surgeon, and then went on to become a successful author of such books as How We Die; which I hope to read one day.
